macbook overheating mac os x remove startup item clean inside macbook stop auto start with boot for application Macintosh 10.6 excessive use of fan and extreme heat with no programs running stop application from starting with OS get rid of weird startup task

In my case the main cause of run-away heating by Ebony, the most overworked white MacBook in the history of laptops, was the recently reinstalled Lexmark X83 printer and scanner's start-up item.

Remove unwanted item from automatically starting up in Mac OS X Snow Leopard

  1. Apple Menu » System Preferences » Accounts
  2. In your account, get to the "Start-Up Preferences Pane" by clicking “Login Items.”
  3. Use the minus sign (the checkmarks are for making invisible) to remove the offending app.

And I'm pretty sure i still have to clean this poor abused MacBook. If it is as dirty as it is outside on the inside... This would seem to be the best guide for opening it up to do that:

Note to self: Some recommend against the commonly recommended indiscriminate use of compressed air.
